Overview

ArchiveBox saves websites, bookmarks, RSS feeds, social posts and media as durable files including HTML, PDF, PNG, WARC, MP4, JSON and SQLite. Each collection lives in one data folder with a SQLite index and per-snapshot folders that can be browsed without the app running. URLs arrive via the CLI, Web UI, REST API, browser extension, bookmark imports or scheduled feed pulls.

Self-hosters, journalists and research teams needing durable copies of web pages on their own hardware
Pricing

Strengths and trade-offs

Strengths

  • Snapshots kept as ordinary files, with SQLite and JSON metadata
  • Saves HTML, PDF, PNG, WARC, article text, media and git clones
  • CLI, Web UI, REST API, webhooks and scheduled imports included
  • MIT licensed; Docker Compose bundles the archiving dependencies

Trade-offs

  • Self-hosted only — you run and maintain the server and storage yourself
  • Roughly 1 GB to 50 GB of disk per 1,000 snapshots, depending on media
  • Archived pages that execute JavaScript are a stated risk when viewed
  • Private URLs, cookies and headers can leak unless access is configured
  • Operators carry the legal load: copyright, DMCA and GDPR requests
