Overview
Anytype is a notes, tasks, database and chat app that stores data encrypted on your device. Pages are built from blocks — text, lists, images, videos, files, links, tables and nested pages — and databases can be viewed as tables, kanban boards or galleries. It runs offline, syncs peer-to-peer on local networks, and backups can be self-hosted.
- Best for
- Individuals and small teams wanting notes, tasks, databases and chat kept encrypted on their own devices
- Pricing
- Free tier with 100 MB storage, then $4, $8 or $16 per month for 1 GB, 10 GB or 100 GB, with 20% off when billed yearly.
- Runs on
- macOSSelf-hosted
Strengths and trade-offs
Strengths
- Local, on-device encryption; only you hold the encryption keys
- Works offline and syncs peer-to-peer over local networks
- Free tier includes unlimited private channels and 100 MB storage
- Blocks, databases, templates and table, kanban and gallery views
Trade-offs
- Free tier caps remote storage at 100 MB and shared channels at 10
- Storage-tiered pricing: even the $16/month Ultra plan stops at 100 GB
- SSO, admin panel and self-hosting sit in an unpriced Business plan
- ANY ID name length is gated by tier — short names need the dearer plans
