Strengths and trade-offs

Strengths

  • No cookies, so no consent banner; GDPR and CCPA compliant
  • Open source and free to self-host
  • Free tier: 100K events, 1 website, 6 months retention
  • Data export via API or dashboard, stated as no lock-in

Trade-offs

  • Session replays and heatmaps only on the $200/month Business plan
  • Self-hosted version lacks email reports and the streaming API
  • Hobby tier caps at 1 website and 6 months of data retention
  • Events over the plan limit bill per event, so cost tracks traffic
