Overview

Syncthing is a continuous file synchronisation program that keeps files in sync between two or more computers in real time. Devices connect directly to each other rather than through a central server, each identified by a cryptographic certificate and ID, and traffic is secured by TLS with perfect forward secrecy. It is configured and monitored through a browser interface.

Best for
Individuals and teams syncing files between their own devices with no central server.
Pricing
No prices are shown in the captured text; the site offers downloads, asks for donations, and notes that Kastelo provides commercial support.

Android

Strengths and trade-offs

Strengths

  • No central server; data stays on your own computers
  • TLS with perfect forward secrecy, per-device certificates
  • Runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris and OpenBSD
  • Open protocol, open source on GitHub, public bug tracking

Trade-offs

  • Each device must be added by ID, so setup is per-device
  • No central copy: lose every device and you lose the data
  • Direct connections rely on UPnP or manual port forwarding
  • Commercial support comes from a third party, Kastelo
