Overview
Encore is a backend development platform for Go and TypeScript. Infrastructure such as databases, Pub/Sub topics and buckets is declared in application code using its open source SDK. Encore parses that code into an architecture graph, then provisions and deploys to your own AWS or GCP account on git push, with distributed tracing, metrics and a service catalog included.
- Best for
- Teams building Go or TypeScript backends on their own AWS or GCP without a platform team
- Pricing
- Free tier, then Pro from $49 per member/month plus $99/month per AWS or GCP environment and $2.5/month per resource; Enterprise is priced on request.
- Runs on
- WebmacOSSelf-hostedCLI
Strengths and trade-offs
Strengths
- Infrastructure declared in Go or TypeScript, no Terraform files
- Deploys into your own AWS or GCP account, not a vendor platform
- Tracing, metrics, service catalog and architecture diagrams built in
- One command runs the whole backend locally with real infrastructure
Trade-offs
- Only Go and TypeScript are supported
- Only AWS and GCP are named as deployment targets
- Pro adds $99/month per environment and $2.5/month per resource on top of seats
- Free tier excludes deploying to your own cloud and keeps traces 7 days
