Overview
OCI DNS is a cloud native DNS service that answers both internet-facing and internal requests. Zones can be created as primary (authoritative) or secondary, with optional record import, and requests can be distributed across regions by load, destination health, source location, ASN or IP prefix. It also supports private views for VCNs and on-premises networks, DNS metrics and HTTP/HTTPS redirects.
- Best for
- Teams running workloads on Oracle Cloud that need public and private DNS with traffic steering.
- Pricing
- No price is shown for the DNS service in the captured pages; the site states only that OCI DNS requires a paid OCI account, either pay-as-you-go or a Universal Credits contract, and that an Oracle Cloud Free Tier account is available for trying OCI.
- Runs on
- Self-hosted
Strengths and trade-offs
Strengths
- Serves both internet-facing and internal OCI requests
- Primary and secondary zones, with optional record import
- Steering by load, failover, geolocation, ASN and IP prefix
- Private views give name resolution across VCNs and on-premises
Trade-offs
- Requires a paid OCI account: pay-as-you-go or Universal Credits contract
- Captured price list shows no rate for the DNS service itself
- Private DNS scenarios are framed around OCI VCNs and connected networks
- Dynamic DNS hostnames are a separate DynDNS product with its own portal
